Ok i think most of you who know me know i'm this born again huge ass kylie minogue fan and yes this post is about her fabulousness. So when did this madness start? Hmmmm I think it started with that 'can't get you out of my head' song...yessss THAT SONG. Yes yes I'm very into electronica and dance music. Before "CGYOOMH" was released my impression of kylie was 'oh ho hum SLUT' lol. No seriously, I didn't even dig her hot gold shorts. BUT OMG THAT SONG changed everything or should I say that album "Fever" changed everything, I love the campyness, her trippy dancy beats in general it had this feel good vibe.
'Fever', the album was a subconcious part of my life around 2001~2003. Back then I didn't have a mp3 player so i carried the "Fever" cd wherever i went in my obiang-blue-cheapo-ne-ne cd player lol. It was what woke me up at 3am mornings when i was slaving away for my bitch of a girlfriend, kylie kept me entertained for those long rides to my personal hell holes (2hrs there and 2hrs back so in total i spent 4hrs commuting to that bitch's place). I lost myself into the sonic reverbs of "Fever" and gladly so. I suppose it brought me reprive from the grind of those years. So mornings with my headphones on, i boarded the train with kylie bopping in my ears. :)
Ok fasttrack to 2008....before Kylie came to town I was still just the average fan. I mean love her music, I love the foxy person that she is BUT HELL NO I DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT SHE COULD SING. Ok I kinda convinced myself that all dance/pop singers heavily utilise production studios to vocally fake awesomeness, but this aussie lass omg can she sing. In kylie words "You've got it you're Wowowowowowowowow" . From that concert I was completely SOLD on her vocals. U RAWK MAH WORLD KYLIE. It was quite possibly one of the most surreal experiences I've had in the last 26 years of my life. I mean seeing her perform just 30m away from where I sat was absolutely spellbinding.
Since I'm this huge HUGE HUGE fan of hers I back tracked and found this gem of an album of hers in her 'indie' years titled the "Impossible Princess". You guys can call me bias or whatever i don't care but this album was both critically acclaimed and a commercial flop because it was too forward for its time. I really applaud it for its boldness. At that time (1998) trip hop was still considered an anomaly. If any of you are into Portishead or Hooverphonics, there are a few tracks in this album is worth a listen. Its lyrically the most honest and intense albums I've heard from kylie, gone is her vampy image and into beth gibbons(portishead singer) she went.
Here's one the trippier songs from 'Impossible Princess'. "Through the years"
